However, in the early 1960s, food was generally plentiful and agricultural production was increasing more quickly than population growth. This posed the risk that plentiful supplies would deflate agricultural prices and cause farm incomes to fall. Equally, farm incomes were already causing concern to national governments in the late 1950s and 1960s. At a time of general economic expansion, farm incomes had not kept pace with the incomes available in other sectors of the economy. , Ritson, C.
